Bovey Tracey Amenities Society
Bovey Tracey Amenities Society WHY NOT JOIN US IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE FUTURE OF THIS LOVELY TOWN? The Bovey Tracey Amenities Society consists of an association of like-minded people interested in the future of this delightful town. The Society is non-political and is not connected with any religious denomination. Its main purpose is to look after the future of the town with special emphasis on investigating and representing our members’ interests when new developments are proposed. We hold informal monthly meetings. These start with invited speakers presenting topics of general or local interest. After an interval for refreshments, members then discuss matters of local interest, ask questions, and receive reports of our local Town Council meeting, which are regularly attended by one of our committee members. Once a year, a member of the Town Council, quite often the Mayor, attends one of our meetings to give an up-date on what the Council has been doing on our behalf and to answer any of our members’ questions. When any significant development comes to our notice, we either arrange a public meeting or distribute information around the town to gather opinions, before considering a course of action. We have a full and varied programme, starting in September. We meet at the Methodist Church Hall in Bovey Tracey starting at 7.30pm. We particularly welcome anyone who has recently moved to the town. Details of meetings for the remainder of this year are given below. Each meeting is advertised by poster in the town so why not come to one of them to see for yourself how the Society operates? We now have an exciting and varied programme for 2008/2009: 30th September: Jo Wilcox, Trading Standards Agency - Scams and Rogue Traders 28th October: Andrew Shadrake - Pictures from East Timor’s road to freedom 25th November: David Kirkpatrick - Tour de Mont Blanc 27th January: Annual General Meeting 24th February: Meteorological Office (to be confirmed) 31st March:Laura Whitehouse - The work of a Ranger at Stover Country Park 28th April: Cllr. Alan Griesiell - How your Town Council works for you
