Bovey Tracey Charter Half Marathon Results

The Charter Half Marathon, held on Sunday 4th July attracetd over 300 runners. The general feedback is that it was an excellent event and many asked if it is to be repeated next year. The decission is the event will be held on 3rd July 2011.
Well done to all those who took part and finished the course. Also thank you to all the marshalls and the team behind organising this Half Marathon and to Ben Morley the winner of the 2010 Charter Half Marathon.
The Charter Fun Run also attracted over 100 entries.

The race organisers apologise for some inaccuracies as there were some errors on the day such as duplicate races numbers and one competitor number not logged, racers swopping numbers and sme minor time keeping anomalies. We hope to vastly improve this for 2011.

'Family Music & Dance Charter Celebration Evening' - Saturday 10th July at The Riverside Hotel.
A family evening for everyone, including Jazz, Folk, Funk, African & Spanish music from talented, local young musicians from 7.00pm to 10.00 pm.
Followed by dancing & disco with DJ John Sherlock from 10.00pm to 11.45pm (for the over 16's).
Entry £2 per adult on door, under 16's £1.00.
Proceeds going to the musicians.

750th Charter Souvenir Programme

Click to to download the winning design by Samantha Lee-Brina for the front cover of the souvenir programme. Samantha's daughter, Jasmine, also provided the winning design in the 4 to 6 years old category of the Charter Banner Competition. A truly family affair.
You can now see the three winning entries from the Charter Banner Competetion on the lamposts in Fore Street.
Helen Mann, who won a similar competition for the 700th Charter Celebrations in 1960 was runner up and her design is on the back cover of the Souvenir Charter Programme.
The competition, part of the 750th Charter Celebrations was judged by Erica Steer, Diretor of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and Viv Styles of the Bovey Tracey Heritage Trust.

Charter Flower Festival

Come and visit the wonderfully arranged floral exhibits celebrtating the past 750 years of Bovey Tracey's history.
This Charter Flower Festival is being held on Friday, Saturday & Sunday: 9th to 11th July
The churches involved in the Charter Flower Festival are St
John’s Church, the Church of the Holy Spirit Church,both located on Ashburton Road. Bovey Tracey Methodist Church, Fore Street & the church of SS Peter, Paul & Thomas, which is located at the end of East Street.
Each church will be depicting a period of Bovey’s history over the
past 750 Years.
The churches will be open from 11.00am to 4.00pm on Friday & Saturday and from 12.00noon to 5.00pm on Sunday.
On Sunday 11th July at 3.30pm at the Methodist Church, the Moretonhampstead Handbell Ringers will be giving a free performance. Everyone is invited to come along to this free event.

Charter Celebrations Picnic with AJ's Big Band

The Bovey Tracey Charter Committee invites all Parishioners to the final event of Charter week
to celebrate our 750th Anniversary of the signing of the Market & Fair Charter.
Come and join us in Mill Marsh Park, with your picnic from 5.30pm and dance the night away to the unforgettable music of the swing era
with AJ’s Big band, the South West’s leading 17 piece big band sound.

Grand Charter Procession & Charter Fair & Market

THE GRAND CHARTER PROCESSION takes place from Bradley Road to Mill Marsh Park, and all residents of the Parish are invited to join us on Saturday 10th July in your costumes from any period from the last 750 years in Bradley Road from 9.30am onwards. The procession will start at 10.30am. We will be joined by the Tiverton Town Band, the Sealed Knot and the specially reformed Bovey Tracey Court Leet, the original Bovey Tracey Parish Council as well as our medieval strolling minstrel band ‘Mock Hobby Horse'!
Following on from the Grand Procession will be The Charter Fair & Market in Mill Marsh Park, to be opened at 12.00 noon by our Town Mayor Cllr Avril Kerswell.. There are many events and attractions to mark our special celebrations taking place in Mill Marsh Park. These include the Victorian Flower Show organised by the Bovey Tracey Horticultural Society. Entry forms for this event are available from Mike Winters (01626 832277).
Come and help to create the Charter Mosaic with Michelle Wilcox and listen to stories from Bovey Tracey’s past days with our resident story teller Clive Pigg – The Storyfella. The Sealed Knot will be providing a marching and drill performance from the Civil War days and there will be two performances by The Band of the Adjutant Generals Army Corps Military Band.
Bovey Tracey Primary School will be providing the Maypole Dancing as well as a performance by the school’s Samba Band. The Newton Bushell Morris Dancers will also give two performances as well as there being craft demonstrations in the Charter Marquee. The line up would not be complete without the Bovey Tracey Fire Brigade giving a demonstration of their skills.
To ensure no one goes hungry, there will be a Food Market, show casing the best of local produce for you to taste and buy. Refreshments, a ram roast, snacks & ice creams will also be on sale all day and there is a Beer Tent open from 11.30am to early evening.
