750th Charter Celebrations – 2010

In 1260 Sir Henry De Tracey, who was the first Lord of the Manor of Bovey Tracey, obtained a charter from the Crown allowing a weekly market and an annual fair in the town.

In July 2010, the Town Council are planning to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the signing of the Charter. A Charter Committee has been formed representing a wide range of organisations in Bovey Tracey and Heathfield.

The celebrations are now less than 7 months away, the Committee are working together to provide an exciting programme of events.

The most recent event on 5th December was the Charter Tree Planting Ceremony along the Le Molay Littry Way. 40 trees were planted by local organisations as a lasting legacy of the 2010 Charter Celebrations.

The provisional Charter Celebrations programme is now available (click below)and will be regularly updated.

The Charter Banner competion for the young people of Bovey Tracey is still open for entries. Please see below to download an entry form.
