Kelly Mine is a Devon iron mine situated on the eastern flank of Dartmoor near Lustleigh. The mine worked deposits of micaceous iron oxide, also known as MIO, micaceous haematite or 'shiny ore', which is a flaky form of iron oxide, Fe2O3. Kelly Mine is one of some ten mines and two or three trials, within the triangle formed by the towns of Bovey Tracey and Moretonhampstead and the village of Hennock, which worked similar deposits.

Mine machinery, stamps, ore washing strips and incline operating.  Water turbine and waterwheels to be run if water is available.

Getting to Kelly Mine

Kelly Mine is on the A382 about 500 yds south of the Lustleigh junction, towards Bovey Tracey.

Free Parking is in the Lustleigh show field.

From the A382 Bovey Tracey to Moretonhampstead road take the road to Lustleigh from Kelly Cross (SX 790819). After about 300 yds turn left into the parking field at SX 790817 and drive to the far end of the field. Follow the signs to the mine.  There is one high stile and a stream to cross.  Less agile visitors may be dropped off on the main road outside the mine. There is no parking on the site.

There are no toilet facilities on site and there is no vehcle access.

Children and dogs must be closely supervised in the interests of safety.
