NOTICE OF CO-OPTION ON BOVEY TRACEY TOWN COUNCIL
Added: 17 May 2023
Following the recent Town Council elections for Bovey Tracey, 12 Councillors were elected uncontested for the Bovey Ward. The Council also requires 2 Councillors to represent the Heathfield ward, however at the time of the election there were no candidates nominated. Bovey Tracey Town Council can now fill the two vacancies for the Ward of Heathfield by co-option.
If you are interested in serving as a Town Councillor for Heathfield Ward but also supporting the parish of Bovey, please contact the Town Clerk confirming that you are qualified to be a Councillor at which point an application form will be issued for completion or alternatively this can be downloaded from this page.
To be qualified to be elected a member of the Town Council a person must be a British or Commonwealth citizen, citizen of the Republic of Ireland, or European Union citizen, who has attained the age of 18 years of age and is:
- registered as a local government elector for the parish;

- and/or his/her principal or only place of work during that twelve months has been in the parish; and/or

The Council meets bi-monthly (May, June, September, November, January and March). A large proportion of Council work is delegated to and dealt with by 3 standing Committees which meet fortnightly on a pre-agreed schedule of meeting dates. Meetings take place predominantly at the Riverside Community Centre on Monday evenings.
Cllr Sheila Brooke, Town Mayor and Council Chairperson said “we are seeking candidates who can engage or have links already established within the community of Heathfield, to ensure the residents and/or businesses within Heathfield are represented appropriately in council discussions and decisions”. If you would like to know more about the role, please contact the Town Clerk or the Town Mayor and Council Chairperson, Cllr Sheila Brooke (email: Sheila.brooke@boveytracey.gov.uk).
