All of us at Bovey Tracey Town Council are shocked by the sudden announcement by British Ceramic Tile Limited that it has ceased trading with immediate effect.
Described as the largest manufacturer of ceramic wall and floor tiles in the UK, British Ceramic Tile, the continuation of a company that has been operating since 1850, has been an important local employer for generations of people.
This must be devastating news for those who have lost their jobs, to whom we extend our sincere sympathy.
BCT has invested substantially in improving and expanding its Heathfield headquarters recently, and we can only hope that this attracts a buyer to continue operating at the site.
