Bovey Tracey Town Council is seeking to recruit for a Caretaker for the Riverside Community Centre, to work as part of a small, friendly team in our newly developed Riverside Community Centre. This is an exciting time to work for the Town Council as we are developing a new facility and a range of projects centred on the Town’s strategic priorities, including community engagement and sustainability.

Caretaker – This role will be for approximately 10 hours per week, with variable hours spread over at least 4 days a week and is required to assist in the supervision and day to day management and running of the Riverside Community Centre and all associated activities/events/meetings that take place there.  The successful postholder will be responsible for the ‘out of hours’ opening, closing and securing of the Community Centre when events are scheduled in the evenings/weekend, ensuring that Health & Safety issues are strictly adhered to and the operation of all emergency procedures & building maintenance i.e., fire alarm, emergency lighting & heating system are carried out.  Other key tasks include the preparation and dismantling for various functions from small meetings to larger events & conferences, which will involve regular manual handling (e.g., lifting/moving/setting up/packing away of furniture.

The post requires candidates to be able to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends and short work sessions for opening/closing duties, be confident working autonomously but also as part of a team and be physically fit to lift/move heavy items as required.

The successful candidate will ultimately be responsible to the Centre Manager.

Salary: SCP 1 – 2 (£17,842 – £18,198 per annum FTE)

Salary displayed is full time equivalent and will be pro-rata in accordance with hours.

The successful candidate will be based within the newly developed Riverside Community Centre, Station Road, Bovey Tracey.  The vibrant shared space hosts the Town’s Library, Information Centre and Public Toilets as well as the Council  offices  with natural light and modern technology.
