  • A382 Better communications promised image 1

BOVEY Tracey Mayor, Cllr Sheila Brooke, has stressed to engineers and highways officials working on the two-year A382 ‘roadworks scheme that residents must be better informed about diversions and that route management must be improved.

Of particular concern is congestion in Clay Lane and its junction with the B3193 at Rixey Park.

Cllr Brooke attended a drop-in session at The Riverside Centre on Thursday October 30.

After speaking with the project team she said: ‘A lot of people are unhappy that this scheme will take two years to complete but there is nothing now that we can do about that and, eventually, a better road will be delivered.

‘I’m pleased to say that a relationship with those managing the works has been established and they have pledged to keep us better informed and to fine tune traffic management, where possible, in response to public comments.

‘I acknowledge that we find ourselves in a less than satisfactory position but at least a dialogue has been opened, and Bovey Tracey Town Council will continue to voice people’s concerns.

‘And spread the word, Bovey is open for business.’

The event was called by Devon County Councillor for Bovey Rural, Sally Morgan, who inherited the project when elected in May.

She is unhappy that the town was not included in the original consultation programme which took place before work started.

She said: ‘Why we were not included baffles me but, at last, we’ve had a chance to ask questions and express our feelings.

‘The Mayor and I have also been invited to visit the project and we’ll report on that in due course.

‘At the very least, drivers need real-time information about the best diversion to take and there must be better solutions to some of the rat-runs being created.

‘We acknowledge that budget cuts have resulted in changes to what was planned and that the works will take far longer than many people want.

‘We promise to keep on top of this and do whatever we can to make the process as painless as possible.

‘A small piece of good news is that work on the new Jetty Marsh Link Road and roundabout is ahead of schedule, let’s hope they can keep that up.’
