  • Consultation Events - Draft Traffic Management Plans - Bovey Tracey Town Centre image 1

A revamp of Bovey Tracey town centre, to benefit all road users and improve access and parking for businesses in the area is being investigated and consulted on by Bovey Tracey Town Council.

Proposed plans involve a potential one-way system or the continuation of a two-way system with inbound priority.  The changes look to provide increased formalised on-street parking, whilst removing congestion and providing a better flow of traffic.  It is also envisaged that the options being presented will provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists, while still providing for buses servicing the area.

Bovey Tracey Town Council’s Regeneration Committee Chairman, Cllr Eoghan Kelly, said: "The current town centre traffic system has made the area particularly hostile to pedestrians. These major improvements could see the town centre completely transformed and turned into a much more civilised place for everyone, encouraging more people to use the local high street and driving wider regeneration of the area."  He goes on to say "Redesigning the way in which traffic flows through our Town Centre has been a key aim of the Regeneration Committee and the Town Council for a long time and so I'm delighted that these ambitions are starting to gather pace. This consultation seeks the public's views about the general principle of making these changes.  Although these are draft options, we are not yet in a position to say what the detailed designs will be until further discussions take place with the County Council.  At the moment it is important that we gauge the views of local residents and businesses to see if they support this strategic objective."

Plans are now on display at Bovey Tracey Library, where you can also complete a feedback form, which will help to shape further designs of the new highway layout.  If however, you prefer to speak with a member of the Town Council about the proposals, there will be staffed sessions during the following times:

Tuesday 26th July – Between 10.00am – 11.00am

Thursday 28th July – Between 3.00pm – 4.00pm

Wednesday 3rd August  – Between 6.00pm – 7.00pm

Saturday 6th August – Between 10.00am – 11.00am

The display will remain at the library until Friday 26th August 2016.  Copies of the draft Traffic Management Plan, feedback form and proposed layouts will also be available to download here.
